1 Drop Queen of the Night Oil
3 drops rose oil
1 drop lemon verbena oil
4 fl. oz (120cc) white spirit

Blend the three oils in a bottle. Add the white spirit, and shake all vigorously. A cologne can be made by adding another 1 FL. oz (30cc) of white spirit and 3 fl. oz (90cc) of distilled water.

Thor

Thor is a well-known figure in Norse mythology, as the red-haired God of Thunder. He was son to Odin, but was not as unstable as his father. Though Thor could be impulsive, he was fearless, reliable and honest in battle. He was sometimes described as being a little slow-witted as well. Thor was married to the corn Goddess, Sif. In our modern calendar, Thursday is named for Thor. His Germanic name was Donner or Donnar.

His war-hammer was Mjolnir (Destroyer) and belt was Megingjardar (Strength Increasing). In typical Norse style, he traveled in a bronze chariot pulled by two large goats. He rides through the sky, creating thunder with Mjolnir. In battle, Thor's hammer would always return to him after it was thrown. No enemy could stand against it. The hammer was so great, that it was the central symbol for the Norse beliefs (today known as Asatru).

Cauldron Cookies

Cauldron Cookies

3/4 cup softened butter

2 cups brown sugar

2 eggs

1 tablespoon lemon juice

2 teaspoons grated lemon rind

2 cups flour

1 cup finely chopped pecans

Cream the butter in a large cast-iron cauldron (or mixing bowl). Gradually add the brown sugar, beating well. Add the eggs, lemon juice, and rind, and then beat by hand or with an electric mixer until the mixture is well blended. The next step is to stir in the flour and pecans.

Cover the cauldron with a lid, aluminum foil, or plastic wrap, and refrigerate overnight.

When ready, shape the dough into one-inch balls and place them about three inches apart on greased cookie sheets. Bake in a 375-degree preheated oven for approximately eight minutes. Remove from the oven and place on wire racks until completely cool. This recipe yields about 36 cookies which can be served at any of the eight Sabbats, as well as at Esbats and all other Witchy get-togethers.

Nine Worlds of Norse Myth

The landscape of Norse mythology is large and more elaborate than that of many other cultures. It goes much beyond the typical paradise, earth, underworld structure that most people are familiar with.

There are nine worlds, divided into 3 layers, and they are all connected by the World Tree, Yggdrasil.

The Upper Level

Asgard - Located at the very top of Yggdrasil, Asgard is the home of two races of Gods, the Aesir and the Vanir. All of the Gods in Asgard have their own great halls. The greatest of them is Valhalla, the hall for slain heroes.
Vanaheim - The Vanir lived in this realm while they were at war with the Aesir. Since the Gods made peace, the Vanir have lived in Asgard.
Alfheim - The land of the light elves.

The Middle Level

Midgard - This is the realm that we all know, the land of Earth and mankind. There is a bridge of a rainbow between Midgard and Asgard, called Bifrost.
Jotenheim - An icy land of the frost giants.
Nidavellir - Realm of the dwarves.
Svartalfheim - Land of dark elves.
Muspelheim - The fire giants live here, and it is one of these giants that will set the world ablaze at Ragnarok.

The Lower Level

Niflheim - The roots of Yggdrasil emerge in this cold and dark underworld. The goddess Hel rules here, from her hall Eljudnir. Sometimes this realm is actually called Hel, and some sources consider Niflheim and Hel to be two distinct lands of the underworld.

Even within these nine worlds, there are further details of places, regions and halls to fill out the full map of Norse mythology.

1 c Unbleached Flour, Sifted

2 t Baking Powder

1/4 t Salt

1/4 t Ground Cinnamon

1/4 c Vegetable Shortening

2/3 c Sugar

1 ea Large Egg

1/2 c Canned, Mashed Pumpkin

2 T Milk

Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon; set aside. Cream together shortening and sugar in mixing bowl until light and fluffy, using electric mixer at medium speed. Beat in egg. Combine pumpkin and milk in small bowl. Add dry ingredients alternately with pumpkin mixture to creamed mixture, stirring well after each addition. Spoon batter into paper-lined 2 1/2-inch muffin-pan cups, filling 2/3rds full.

Bake in 350 degree F. oven 20 minutes or until golden brown. Serve hot with butter and homemade jam.

Crescent Cakes

1 cup firmly ground almonds
1 1/4 cups flour
1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
2 drops almond extract
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 egg yolk

Combine almonds, flour, sugar and extract until thoroughly mixed. With the hands, work in butter and egg yolk until well-blended. Chill dough. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Pinch off pieces of dough about the size of walnuts and shape into crescents. Place on greased sheets and bake for about 20 minutes. Serve during Simple Feast, especially at Esbats
